Goodreads Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.

My thoughts on this book are a bit double, I loved it so much and yet I'm a bit sad because of the ending of the book. I love the idea of a book with gay characters, they even put more than only the LBGT scene in it.

Let’s start with Simon, He is a fun person even though he is a guy I still find little pieces of him in me. The way he talks to blue in his e-mails are so cute and funny but also serious. He looks at the world like someone I’ve never met. He possess a way of thinking and speaking of someone who is more mature than his age even though he can act like a child sometimes.

Blue is not really there and yet he is, his e-mails are honest, nice and understandable. He makes Simon wander who he really is and I think the blue is the same when it comes to Simon. I like the fact that they both like each other even though they don’t know who either of them are.

Martin turns out to be more than his role in the blackmailing. He kind of uses Simon but when you find out more about it, you won’t see him as the bully he actually is. I think opinions are different about him from person to person but that is how I see it.

Simons friends are different as can be, there characters are fun and nice even though there is some drama from times to times just like every group of friends have. This is also a thing that makes you relate to the book so much.

Even though this book is not set on the blackmailing and the title doesn’t make a lot of sense unless you read the book, I absolutely loved it. Not only because you hardly see books set with main characters who are gay and different but it makes you look at the world a little different.
