Synopsis:The Jewel means
wealth. The Jewel means beauty. The Jewel means royalty. But for girls like
Violet, the Jewel means servitude. Not just any kind of servitude. Violet, born
and raised in the Marsh, has been trained as a surrogate for the
royalty—because in the Jewel the only thing more important than opulence is
offspring.
Purchased at the
surrogacy auction by the Duchess of the Lake and greeted with a slap to the
face, Violet (now known only as #197) quickly learns of the brutal truths that
lie beneath the Jewel’s glittering facade: the cruelty, backstabbing, and
hidden violence that have become the royal way of life.
Violet must accept
the ugly realities of her existence... and try to stay alive. But then a
forbidden romance erupts between Violet and a handsome gentleman hired as a
companion to the Duchess’s petulant niece. Though his presence makes life in
the Jewel a bit brighter, the consequences of their illicit relationship will
cost them both more than they bargained for.
Thoughts:
This book seemed
interesthing at first and the more I got in to it, the more frustration
hit me like a bom.
first of all I
didn't really liked that world at all. The time set it was in reminded me of
attack on titan. all these walls and being divided in social status makes me
feel ugh.
the way all these
girl are being treated is horrible. I must say that the idea was a bit creative
but at the same time it scared the *** out of me.
the whole idea of
surrogates is maybe a bit to overwhelming for me. and then there is this thing
with her falling in love. it was underdeveloped and so sudden that it didn't
make any sense at all.
however I did
enjoy this book even though it reminded me of wither and attack on titan. I'll
read the sequel because I really want to answers. i hope the sequel contain
those answers I'm looking for.
and for those who do not know what attack on titan is, it is an anime serie with a horror factor.
